A microcement bathroom removes every joint. No grout to discolour, no tile edges collecting limescale, and no silicone line around the tray that goes black in two years. Floor, walls and shower enclosure can run as one uninterrupted surface.
Waterproofing is the part that matters and the part most people never see. The Viero Oltre system builds a continuous waterproof membrane before the decorative coat goes anywhere near the wall — an elastic seal worked into every corner and junction, then two full coats with reinforcing microfibre mesh on vertical surfaces. That membrane is what makes a step-free wet room possible without separate tanking underneath.
It can usually go straight over your existing tiles. That often means no strip-out, no skip, and a fraction of the mess of a conventional bathroom refit.

Worth knowing before you commit
Usually not. If the tiles are sound and well bonded, Oltre goes directly over them. I check adhesion and flatness at the survey — loose or drummy tiles have to come off, and I’ll tell you if that’s the case rather than coat over a problem.
Yes, once the full system is in place. The Barrier stage forms a continuous membrane with an elastic seal at corners and junctions and microfibre mesh reinforcement on walls. The decorative Style coat is waterproof too, and the Top 2K sealer adds the wear and chemical resistance.
Texture affects grip — a trowelled finish gives more than a highly polished one. If you plan to quote a slip rating, get the tested figure from Viero before publishing one.
There isn’t any grout. That removes the single most common maintenance complaint in a tiled bathroom, and the seamless surface gives mould far less to grip onto.
Colour is selected on site against your actual fittings and lighting, not from a screen. Samples are made up before anything is committed.
