The Material
Usually, yes. Oltre is designed to be applied directly over sound existing tile, screed, plasterboard and concrete. That often means no strip-out, less mess and less disruption. I confirm suitability at the site visit rather than promising it blind.
Waterproof, once the full system is in place. The Barrier stage forms a continuous membrane with an elastic seal and microfibre mesh reinforcement at corners and junctions — that’s what allows wet rooms without separate tanking underneath.
Yes. Oltre is compatible with heated substrates, which is standard in most current specifications.
Microcement moves with the substrate beneath it. A stable, correctly prepared substrate won’t crack; an unstable one will, whatever goes on top. This is exactly why I won’t skip the survey, and why a suspiciously cheap quote that omits preparation is a false economy.
Living With It
A damp mop and a pH-neutral cleaner is all it needs day to day. Avoid abrasive or strongly acidic cleaners, which dull the sealer over time.
The Top 2K polyurethane sealer is formulated to resist scratching, impact and common household detergents, which is what makes it viable in busy kitchens, bathrooms and commercial spaces.
No, and that’s the point. It’s hand-applied, so there’s tonal variation across a surface. If you want something perfectly uniform, you want a manufactured product, not microcement — I’d rather tell you that up front than have you disappointed at handover.
Process & Cost
It depends on area and substrate, but the system is layered and each stage has to cure properly — the sealer alone needs roughly four hours between coats and around twenty-four hours to cure before the space is used.
