Not paint, not tile — a mineral coating system
Microcement is a cement-based, polymer-modified coating applied by hand in thin layers, then sealed. It has real body and texture, so it isn’t paint, and there’s nothing to lay or grout, so it isn’t tile. It sits in a category of its own.
Thin enough to go over what’s there
The whole system builds to roughly 2–3mm, against 15–20mm for a tiled build-up. That’s usually thin enough to go straight over existing tile, screed or concrete without ripping anything out first.
No joints to fail
No grout, no tile edges, no silicone line. Nothing for water, dirt or mould to sit in, and nothing that can come loose over time.
Genuinely waterproof, not just resistant
In wet areas the Barrier stage forms a continuous, tested waterproof membrane before the decorative coat goes anywhere near the wall — that’s what makes step-free wet rooms possible.
Built to be lived on
Once the Top 2K sealer is on, the surface resists scratches, impact and everyday chemicals. It’s tough enough for a kitchen floor or a busy hallway, not just a feature wall.
Colour and texture, not a fixed pattern
49 colours as standard, bespoke colour matching on request, and the texture is trowelled to suit the room rather than picked from a factory pattern.
It has limits, and I’ll tell you what they are
It relies on a stable substrate underneath — see the honest version of that on the Costs page. It costs more than tiling and needs a specialist installer. If it’s wrong for your project, I’ll say so.

Every surface is trowelled by hand, so the texture — smoother and flatter, or with more visible movement and relief — is worked to suit the room and what you’ve asked for, not picked off a fixed list. Once that’s set and cured, two coats of Top 2K polyurethane sealer go over the top to fully protect it.
